The hamster on the wheel

We all have times when we feel irritable, tense and tearful. It’s usually when we’re feeling tired and stressed and less able to cope with all the trials and tribulations of everyday life and let’s face it life is much more stressful than it used to be. Our bodies are constantly over-stimulated by everything which is going on around us eg speed and noise of traffic, modern machinery, stimulants in food, drink and drugs and the ever changing speed of technology.

We may get a buzz out of rushing around filling every available minute, but we do need down time. How many times have you ignored what your body is trying to tell you, when you’re feeling tired, thirsty or hungry and carried on regardless?

It seems logical that the modern phenomenon of auto-imune illnesses, such as ME/chronic fatigue syndrome is the body’s way of making us take notice, whether we want to or not. Although this is an extreme example of our system shutting down, it can happen to any one of us.

So when you’re feeling tired and headachey, don’t ignore it, give yourself some down time. Try and find somewhere quiet for maybe 20 minutes each day. Your body will thank you for it.
